On Tuesday September 27th, 2011 ten visitors from The United States Attorney for the Northern District of California participated as Judges at court night. The Attorneys office felt "court was very organized, ran smoothly, and was very impressive;" and our "Youth were trained very well." There were six cases on the docket, smaller than usually in order to allot time for a questions & answers session after the court cases completed. The Attorneys office answered the youth’s questions about what inspired them to pursue their career, what experiences & opportunities does their career offer, and how youth like themselves can get involved.  Court night was a success, and our guest from The United States Attorney for the Northern District of California enjoyed it so much that they are scheduled to come back for another visit. McCullum Youth Court would like to thank each one of our guest for supporting us and our community:

Congratulations are in order today for Francisco Zepeda, one of MYC's Youth Offender Boy's Case Managers.  Francisco was awarded a Community Service Award from the Alameda County Public Health Department in the Youth Category.

Francisco has been with Youth Court for over 3 years as a volunteer, Youth in Leadership, and now as a Junior Staff Boys Case Manager.  In addition to his regular duties, Francisco provides invaluable translation for Youth Court’s Spanish speaking clients. Notes Sean Duren, Youth Court’s Deputy Director, “As a young person, Francisco exemplifies what great things our youth can do when given the right support and environment.  We expect great things from Francisco as he plans to continue working with youth after he receives his Bachelors degree in criminal justice.”

As for Francisco, he had this to say about the recognition:  It is an honor to receive this award and an honor to have the opportunity to be recognized within my community. I just want to thank everyone at McCullum Youth Court for being good role models these past few years and helping me be who I am at this point in life. Even though I am being acknowledged individually for this award I will share it with everyone at McCullum Youth Court for what we ALL do together to make this possible for the youth. I love to be a good help in my community, this is my passion to help as many youth, people overall who need to be helped to get on the right path. Every youth who comes through McCullum Youth Court is what makes me love what I do here, and knowing that I am a big impact to their lives is priceless.
