Key Features of McCullum Youth Court
A legally binding alternative to the juvenile justice system.
An alternative for police officers/judges, making room for more serious cases on their overcrowded caseload.
A means for first-time offenders to get a second chance and to earn a clean record.
Youth offenders are held accountable by a jury of their peers.
A vehicle for restorative justice.
Middle and high school students with an interest in law or social justice are trained and mentored by peer leaders and adult allies to serve as youth attorneys, run Court, and assist with peer counseling and group facilitation.
Mission Statement
The mission of McCullum Youth Court is to offer youth offenders a second chance through restorative justice, peer accountability, and empowering opportunities; and to engage all youth – especially those at risk for entering the juvenile justice system -- in expansive experiences related to law and justice with the aim of changing young lives and impacting communities.
